JadeStep helps English-speaking beginners practise practical Mandarin before and during a China trip. Version 1.0.0 includes 24 lessons and 144 expressions, short dialogues, sentence-building activities and locally scheduled recall reviews. Four starter lessons, the emergency lesson and the tone guide are free. The optional non-consumable Full Course purchase unlocks the complete current course; it is a one-time purchase rather than a recurring subscription. The App Store displays the actual local price before payment. Prepare for Beijing or Shanghai: choose your city and explore four travel situations in each. Eight free place-name cards cover airports and landmarks. Each city groups 12 expressions already in the course; these references do not add to the 144 expressions and follow the same free and full-course access rules. The city guides are static language practice, without live routes, fares, opening hours or visa advice. Learning and audio: bundled lessons, sentence activities and local reviews work offline. Example audio uses an available Mandarin voice from Apple's system speech synthesis, not human studio recordings. A system voice download, purchase, restore or Apple purchase status refresh may need an internet connection. Optional microphone practice records a temporary clip of up to 30 seconds for immediate listening and comparison by ear. There is no speech recognition or automatic pronunciation score. Missing purchase access: open JadeStep Settings and choose Restore Purchases. Sign in to the App Store with the Apple Account that made the purchase and check the internet connection. A restore recovers course access, not study history. Apple handles billing and refund requests. Refunded or revoked purchases no longer unlock the course. Never send your Apple Account password. No Mandarin sound: check the device volume and audio output. In iOS Settings > Accessibility > Read & Speak > Voices, download an available Chinese voice. On older iOS versions this section is called Spoken Content. Recording permission: recording is optional and microphone access is requested only after tapping Record. If permission was denied, check Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. A new recording replaces the previous clip; clips are also removed when deleted, when leaving practice, when the app enters the background or when a new recorder session is initialized. Clips are not a permanent recording library. Study data: progress and preferences stay on your device, with no JadeStep account or app-operated cloud sync. Your device backup settings may include local study data. Reset learning progress in Settings clears study history and saved expressions but retains learning preferences and does not cancel an Apple purchase. To remove preferences as well, remove the app and review any device backups you control.
